The Stack Effect

“The stack effect,” is a natural phenomenon of constant movement of air through the house. Here’s how it works in crawl spaces: When hot air rises, most of it finds ways to escape into the upper areas of a house and then outside. As the hot air leaves the building, cool air rushes in through leaky windows, doors and crawl space vents to replace it and repeat the cycle, what happens? It escapes out of the upper levels of our homes. But we can’t create a vacuum in our homes, so when air escapes, new air has to come in to replace the air that escaped The air in the crawl space that gets sucked up into the living area brings with it moisture, dust, allergens, mold spores and soil gases. If the stack effect is causing air to be drawn into the house through the lower levels, then any possibility of meaningful cross-ventilation, allowing moist air to leave through the vents, is negated.

Why Is Crawl Space Moisture so Bad?

Because it’s the moisture that leads to mold growth, Up to 40% of the air we breathe on the first floor of our home comes from the crawl space… Dirt and broken cement crawl spaces are common in many homes and present many problems for homeowner. Dirt or broken cement inside the home transmits humidity, Damp Musty odors and radon gas, providing rodents ,insects and Bacteria an easy path into the upper living portions of the home. The humidity and dampness that is inherent in crawl spaces can also cause structural damage to the wood framing,Dry rot, carpets, floors and walls moisture generated in the crawlspace will lead to structural damage and higher energy costs!. This environment is a breeding ground for mold and mildew, can cause a Permanent Damage on your Lungs  all of which present a real health concern such Respiratory and Allergy Ailments.

Crawl space encapsulation is process of encapsulating the dirt floor or concrete on the crawl space floor using an impenetrable barrier that is professionally sealed to the walls and overlaps onto the floor. This barrier replaces the need to pour new concrete floors or patch walls. The process is clean and efficient creating a unique new storage area in your home actually replacing the need to pour a new concrete floor.
